• (1) GSoC Foomatic project status (Daniel Dressler)

  - Two activities:
    - Finish adding SQL support to Foomatic
      - adding code from previous GSoC work
      - still needed:  ability to import
    - Replace 2 C programs (10,000 SLOC) with new Perl programs
      - for reliability and ease-of-maintainence
  
  - GSoC 1st week - prototyping to test Perl efficiency
    - in fact new Perl code is faster than old C code
      - Perl code uses high-performance libxml (which is written in C)
      - C code doesn't use libxml
    - only 4 minor issues
      - otherwise C programs are ported to Perl for all XML tags
    - still needed:  Internationalization (multi-language support)
    - still needed:  a new hash complex datatype (imported w/ SQL)
    - still needed:  extensions for new features in Foomatic
  
  - 2nd week - planning
    - ACTION - Daniel - send prototype code URI to Printing Architecture
    - ACTION - All - please review the prototype 200 lines of Perl code
