This meeting was announced and chaired by Smith Kennedy.
These minutes were prepared by Ira McDonald with much help from Smith Kennedy.
- Review agenda and state PWG IP Policy - Ira McDonald as minute taker - Revised Agenda: (1) Administrivia (2) 13-14 February 2019 F2F Prep (Smith) (3) IEEE 1284 status w/ Don Wright (Ira) (4) ISO JTC1 SC28 liaison - Status (Alan) (5) PWG and AMSC/ISO liaisons - Status (Paul) (6) SC Virtual F2F - Future of PWG - Status (All) (7) Other (PWG Operations, 3MF, Mopria, etc.) (Smith) (8) Next SC meetings (9) Action Items Review (All)
- IPR declaration - Roll call - Review minutes of SC meeting (3 December 2018) - Approved as posted
- Discussion - Using same agenda as from November 2018 vF2F (for now) - Can hack at the agenda over email on the reflector - Smith to send out notice after this meeting - DONE
- Discussion - Ira exchanged emails w/ Don Wright on Sunday (12/16/18) - Re-confirm our course of action: Tell Don Wright that PWG intends to abandon IEEE 1284 - PWG could eventually deprecate PWG 5107.1-2005 (Port Monitor MIB) and PWG 5107.2-2010 (Command Set Format for IEEE 1284 Device ID) - Mike Sweet originally suggested that we deprecate the "printer-device-id" IPP attribute and these other decisions cascaded from that suggestionACTION: 12/17/18 - Ira to reply to Don Wright w/ confirmed PWG direction on IEEE 1284
- Discussion - We think we got SC28 off the idea of making IEEE 2600 into an ISO standard - Masahirito-san (SC28) does want to do a liaison with the PWG to coordinate security work on Common Criteria Hardcopy Device Protection Profile (successor to IEEE 2600.1/.2) - Liaison thing PWG has proposed with INCITIS for 3D work would work well for this too - Only takes one person - US TAG recognizes the PWG as a legitimate SDO - No intellectual property headachesACTION: 12/17/18 - Alan to contact Paul Jeran (HP) about a PWG liaison with the US TAG of SC 28 (administered by INCITIS) and communicate that we are intending to pursue a liaison with other ISO JTC1 SCs in a similar fashion
- Discussion - Paul found that ASME is moving in the direction of the ICT to take their first steps toward what IPP and IPP 3D Printing Extensions has already created - ASME just sent whatever they were working on out for 1 year review and so they will be back in April 2019 to start on their next round, and we should engage with them then or at least check back in with them (probably nothing major until late summer) - AMSC hasn't awakened for round 3 - ISO JTC1 might be meeting in NYC in February 2019 - not on ISO calendar - see link above
- Discussion - SurveyMonkey PWG survey? - Probably a bit early to do a survey - If PWG members aren't engaged in the teleconferences, etc., then how likely are they to answer the survey? - Who to survey? - Member contacts? - pwg-announce? - Fundamental questions / issues for the PWG to answer - How to make our technologies more attractive to those that would use them if the demand warranted? - How to increase engagement in PWG development process? - Historical observations - IEEE 1284 was needed to standardize Centronics interface (in 1980s) - In the past, engineers have evangelized these things (i.e., new standards) - What worked was engineers saying "we need this" and that drove their engagement to produce it - Marketing planning and customers wanting features is what drives demand for standards - Engage with Anne Price in 2019 to help with this too?
- Discussion - beta.pwg.org website - Semi-operational - Status query sent to Mike Sweet but he's on vacation at his cabin (offline) - 3MF Consortium: Still hoping for progress... - Mopria: Nothing going on currently between PWG and Mopria
