(4) Working with INCITS to develop a 3D Printing Protection Profile (Alan / Paul)

- Discussion
  - INCITS officers / members expressed interest in participating with them in meetings to 
    discuss security of the 3D Printing equipment
    - Security of the firmware and devices

    - Security / integrity of the data

  - Would anything that IDS has done be relevant to the 3D Printing context?
    - PWG small group meeting (Alan, Paul, Ira) on 7 August 2020
      - Discussed what was done with HCD PP and whether and how to extend that to create a 
        similar profile for 3D Printers

    - Create a "PP module" for 3D Printers?
      - Protection Profile module is a way to extend a base PP for a particular class of 
        products
      - Not a 5 minute task (smile) but better than starting from scratch

    - Since the existing HCD PP specifies requirements but isn't overly prescriptive about 
      the specifics of those requirements being mapped into particular protocols, the HCD PP 
      should be able to be readily leveraged into the 3D space

    - The HCD PP is much more about the "what" than about the "how"

    - Focus is on the administrative control

  - Next steps
    - INCITS to review 3D PDF format(embedded StepNC) to see if it could be the 3D CAD transfer
      standard
      - What about 3MF? Does 3D PDF embedding StepNC make 3D PDF "better" from the 3D Printer's 
        point of view than 3MF?
      - They looked at 5 different file formats (which ones?) and graded them for their 
        applicability

    - Alan and Paul to give a presentation to INCITS meeting on 20 October 2020
      - IDS is ready to help if INCITS continues to be interested in this vector of work

(6) GSoC and GSoD 2020 - Update (Ira / All)

  - GSoC - Very successful 
    - All 7 OP students passed their first GSoC evaluation in June 2020

    - Aakash Lahoti withdrew from IPP Scan project in July 2020
      - OP mentors have re-staffed the project with new students (using the code that Aakash
        committed, but put into the wrong module)

    - Other 6 OP students passed their second GSoC evaluation in July 2020


  - GSoD - LF/OP was accepted
    - One of the LF/OP GSoC projects will get a document via GSoD

    - Technical writer applications deadline was 9 July 2020

    - Next milestone is in mid-August (GSoD is intentionally active in the Fall / Winter)

- "arc" is any single value (often least-significant) in an OID - Existing plain text PWG policy and registry for each PWG MIB base OID - IBM gave PWG a permanent arc for LDAP OIDs for Print Schema (RFC 7612)
- LDAP OIDs to be documented in a additional policy and registry in ".../process/"
ACTION: Smith/Mike/Ira/anybody to draft whitepaper on late binding for best fidelity in Cloud servers, intent vs. process for output fidelity, and the fundamental design ethos of the PWG's work
