The current phase of UPDF is in discovery and investigation of other printer description formats and other technologies that we may use in definition of the UPDF. There was a suggestion to split the UPDF group into several subgroups such as User Interface, Localization, Rendering in order to focus on each component fully. We will begin to do this starting in Miami in March. We will determine subgroups in the January meeting. |
Bill Wyman from Adobe gave a very good presentation of Adobe Job Tickets. A job ticket
is used to send device setup information with a PDL stream. The job ticket format is a
series of defined objects adhering to the PDF specification. The main target business
environment is high-end printing done in print shops. Heres a link to the
presentation Bill gave in pdf format: ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/upd/Archive/1998/JobTickPresent.pdf Also here is Adobes specification on Job Tickets: ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/upd/Archive/Specs/JobTicket.pdf |
Sandra Matts presented on the GPD architecture of NT 5.0 or Windows 2000. Here is a link to the presentation in pdf format: ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/upd/Archive/1998/GPD_Presentation.pdf |
The group is considering using XML to define the format specification for UPDF. XML is
a meta-language that is used to specify any language though it is geared mostly for Web
based languages. It appears to be a good specification method for us to use in defining
UPDF. We are currently gathering information about XML. A couple of web sites were posted
at the meeting. The web site of the World Wide Web Consortium for XML is at: http://www.w3.org/XML Microsoft web site for XML is: http://www.microsoft.com/xml Sun web site has XML (search for XML from home page): http://www.sun.com |
