User Interface prototype

At the last meeting I committed to creating a prototype to see if  it was possible to create a UI based on XML tags. This was done - though the UI is very minimal. There was quite a bit of discussion about the UI. It was decided to re-organize some of the modules in the UPDF file in relation to the User Interface.  Investigate further the spring and flex concepts of XUL.  

Localization of UPDF files

Important to be able to localize strings with no re-compilation of driver. Monolithic drivers today usually (not all!) re-compile. PPD based driver does not re-compile but it does have to be re-installed.

UI Constraints

Norbert Schade from Xionics presented a proposal for a constraint model for the UPDF. Here is the PDF version of his proposal. 

Further discussions for UI in UPDF

Continue constraint discussions in next meeting. However, we are spending too much time on an optional tag. Need to start looking at the paper handling or device features that are more relevant to the UPDF. Decision to start looking at fonts. 

Action items and todos

Investigate spring and flex concept in Mozilla. Convert UPDF to schema based XML. Look at fonts in the next meeting. Contact Corel about UPDF involvement.
